In RipSpawn we use the addon called EPGP-lootmaster to deal with the loot:

We don’t use a loot point system, we merely use this addon to give the lootmaster a quick list of people who need the loot, what items they have equipped and to see which player needs it most. The amount of loot a certain player has gotten recently is also taken into account. Raid attendancy and skill level also influence the chance of players getting more loot.
